Auto deactivation/activation of displacement in viewport

When I turned on displacement rendering speed dropped about 100 times (from 40ms/s to 0.5ms/s in DL). But this is not my complain.
The thing is that it is hard to navigate through a scene, i.e., move, pan, zoom in/out in the view-port.

What if there was an automatic option to deactivate all displacements while pressing left mouse button on the view-port. While moving, panning, zooming in/out all displacement would be deactivated and the speed and responsiveness in the view-port would be greater. Then when a user stops manipulating in the view-port and releases a left mouse button and, let's say after 2 seconds (adjustable in options) all displacements would be automatically reactivated.

Please let me know what do you think.

Hi, have you tried turning on 4x4 subsampling in the viewport? This should help a little bit.

Yes. That was my first thought. Helps sometimes a lot. Sometimes a little :)

You might want to check your displacement settings, sounds like you are pushing it to extremes. Or maybe change your displacement map so you don't have to set the options so high.

4x4 subsampling works pretty fine. Sometimes 8x8 would be useful, if there was such.
