rendering a simple cube

I just installed octane and input all my license info in the right panel.I still cannot get blender to render a simple cube with an rgb texture. I have activated the plugin and set the renderer to octane. All I get is the checkered background when I hit render. Can someone tell me where I am going wrong? Is there a video tutorial showing how to get octane rendering a simple object?

Hi, did you run the OctaneServer prior to this? If not, then you are not connected. Try running the OctaneServer first, make sure its little icon is visible in your right bottom tray

Octane server is active. Do I need the standalone installed? I just installed it as well but things are not working. In the licensing area where my activation codes are it looks like my license is for 1+ and not 2. Yet I have the links for the 2.06 downloads.I had to deactivate on the website to get the standalone to startup. But blender will not render in octanerender mode.

Ah I see, you might have installed blender v2.x already while your blender plugin key is still v1.x
In this case, try upgrading the plugin key. If you had this key long before the v2.x release and you have upgraded the standalone to v2.x before 11 August, then you should have a free plugin upgrade voucher stored against your account. You can go to
http://render.otoy.com/shop/ again and click on the 'upgrade from 1.x' button to confirm this

Did as you said abreukers and the render ended up being a black rectangle. Did I not apply a material to the cube correctly? My licese seemed to update on the website.

Hello bkjernis,
You can read OctaneRender manual, OctaneRender for Blender manual. Also check my tutorial from this topic
http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=37304, you may find it useful for yourself too.

good sign, it's rendering and you know your key is active and connected now. try applying an Octane-native material,

Do I need to have the standalone installed and activated or do I activate inside blender and deactivate the standalone?

The black screen might indicate that you need to go to the camera tab and turn on autofocus or set a focal distance.
