Supported maximum number of polygons ?

Hi,
I have two scenes of random spheres :
1. 25 Million polygons
https://www.dropbox.com/s/h3qm2q66v5080 ... M.max?dl=0
2. 29 Million polygons
https://www.dropbox.com/s/mour4o1qgpn9g ... M.max?dl=0

No textures on both scenes, just a lot of spheres and an OctaneRender daylight.
The 1st scene could be rendered. The 1st scene consumed 2.8 GB GPU RAM.
However, when I tried to render the 2nd scene, I got error. The error window screenshot is attached with this post.

Specs :
- 6x K40m (each has 12 GB GPU RAM)
- OctaneRender for 3DS Max 1.55b
- 3DS Max Design 2014

So, did I just go beyond the limit of supported number of polygons ?

Thank you.

Yes, you will be hitting the triangle/primitive limit.
~ 25M in version 1.55
~ 19M in v2

does it differ when using instances?

This is the unique triangle limit. So if you have a 15M tris object and you instance it 10 times, that will still work. So effectively you have 150M tris, but octane should read out something along the lines of 15M tris, 10 meshes.
