A question about using dual cards (onboard + GTX)

I recently bought a new system with an on board graphics card. I've managed to enable both the onboard and my GTX card so now my GTX is dedicated to Octane Render. The priority is set to High but I'm not seeing a great increase in render speed, if any. Before I do more testing, are there any other settings I can adjust or is the only advantage freeing up the desktop graphic load?

the best thing of having this approach iGPU + Discrete GPU is that whatever You render You screen remains fluid (unless You start messing with heavy scenes)..but render work doesn't influence Your viewport =)
Now by ticking & unTicking those box don't expect a big of a difference.. the most You can get (without changing, buying extra card) by OC'ing - but it depends what exactly model You have (or be more precise it's cooling capabilities, as GPU's are limited by this very much).
Last but not leas, You don't need to have the latex & greatest card =) if You learn things out in the software, spend some time nailing down specifics, You can find good things that help You to cut render times =) but that takes time..

It would help if you told us exactly which GPUs you have and what Octane version you're using...
I am not aware of any nVidia on-board GPUs that support anything beyond CUDA 1.1. That means Octane 1.5+ won't run on them. See the first question in the FAQ (
http://render.otoy.com/faqs.php) and also the list of CUDA-enabled nVidia GPUs (
https://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-gpus), maybe that will help.

there aren't any iGPUs (from Intel or AMD) that would run CUDA - at least not in Octane.. as I understand the question was whether ticking the box changes anything - & the answer is no(or the change is too little to be noticed).it doesn't matter what GPU's You're running =)

Thanks for the replies.
I'm using a GTX 660 Ti as a render card and an Intel HD 4600 for the desktop/viewport.
Being able to work in Poser while rendering is fantastic and a big workflow boost. I just wanted to make I wasn't missing any settings/tricks when using two cards.

If you have your on-board card as your Windows display adapter you are all good. The actual rendering speed won't be any faster, but Poser response whilst rendering will be vastly improved.

Yeah, the Poser response is like night and day. It's really nice to be able to keep working while rendering.
I'm planning on upgrading to Octane 2 next month. How is difference between V1.5 and V2 regarding render speed?

V1.5 verses V2.1 = users are reporting in general V2.1 to be noticeably quicker.

That's good to know, thanks.

yep
PT + coherent + path termpower = 1 seems to do the trick
