good or bad idea: 5.5K euro for machine 2xTitanZ

Hi guys,
Help...
Please, try and talk this out of my head and give me good reasons (other configs) not to buy a machine with 2x TitanZ when the

in my head wants to spend 5.5K euro.
(
probably it will be 6.1k with upgrade RAM and CPU water,
but basically it is 5.5K with i7-5820K, 16GB, 2TB, 250GB SSD)
I have seen other threads about TianZ, 780's adn more,
but I did not want to hack someone's thread.

Hi, Rappet.
I wrote a piece ago about
TitanZ with OctaneRender =) some things have changed: nVidia felt the pressure of red team (aka AMD) as their DualGPU beast (aka Images R9 295X) was in comparison with TitanZ but for half the price =) So nVidia came with evil plan to cut price for TitanZ to 2k$ for boutique builders..& so the AMD slashed their price by 500$ to 999$ & not only for boutique builders, but for all =) I guess the end user wins out from these moves.. =) let the fight continue!
Now how about value =) well at 2K$ plus system TitanZ makes a lot more sense. Just think about: TitanZ is actually the first dual GPU card that comes with full set of vRAM (580 came in 1.5 & 3GB, while 590 "only" in 3Gb but in two chunks!!!, 690 had the same story.. =) thus TitanZ is a bit of different beast compared to any previous dual GPU cards - probably that's one of the reasons why nVidia felt so relaxed with stratospheric price for gaming card..
However, my opinion hasn't changed too much - & if it would be my money, I'd probably go for 3x780 6Gb (if You can find them) or even TitanBlacks under good waterCooling loop - this would get You the same performance, but lower price, better thermals, less noise =)
Last but not least Titan Z makes most of sense for Small Form Factor (mITX, LiquidCooled, OCed to ceiling..) builds -
Bolt II from DigitalStorm or
TikiZ from Falcon Northwest
Though there's one more situation.. =) If You take
EK water block for TitanZ, what You get is two slot card (as it includes dual slot bracket! =) Now think of 4cards, 8xGPUs inside regular case (with some extra space for radiators) - that's a beast & without any need of PCIe Expandetion boxes (these usually cost ~2k$) or extra licences if You go multiple rig route. In that scenario, if You can get TitanZs for 2k & building a monster - that fairly good deal =) that brings back the value if You do things right =)
..just some food for Your thoughts =) keep spinin'

Thanx Glimpse,
I was hoping for your wisdomness

I' ll get back here with my thoughts after investigating more about 780 6 gb.. I think I might get my hands on 4 of them

hehe, looking forward to hear what You came up with =)
ghm, think I need to write 2nd part on TitanZ =)
like looking from different perspective on it..
as with time You start seeing things differently =p

Is this correct: the 780 (6gb) is not a dual 2x 3gb, but just one 6gb like the Titan,
And it has the same 2880 cores and same corespeed 889.
So the 780 6gb is100% like Titan 6gb?
I must be wrong, because why can I get my hands on those 780 for 'only' 500€ and Titans are 900€?
Am I overlooking something?

No, 780 is a bit slower than Titan, the 780Ti is a bit faster but only 3 GB.
Titan was really for extreme gamers with big pockets.
Cheers, mib

780 has "cropped" DP performance (compared to Titan, TitanBlack & Z), that on OctaneRender doesn't make any influence at all. 780 is a bit slower than Titan, but 6Giggers come with nonReference coolers : If You manage to space those out so they would have plenty of space to breath You can get extra performance & they perform on par with Titans (some users on this forum confirmed that =) & thus in theory & in practice 780 6gb for us, Octaners performs the same as Titan..
the problem is..after nVidia released 980/970..these 780/780Ti & 780 6Gb was discontinued.. - at 600$ 6gigger was a bargain..if You can get Your hands on those You'll be lucky =) maybe some retailers even make a discount for You =)..but it's getting harder to spot those, especially if You need more than one or two..

Hi Glimpse,
Thanx again for your thoughts... That helps a lot.
I did some math in price ratio performance and investment.
I came up with this config as good choice, wanting not only 3gb and not wanting to spend more then 5k:
TitanZ + 2x 780Ti (3gb) for 4.500€

I don´t really see the point of having a Titan Z (2x6GB) and 2 780Ti (each 3GB).
It means your VRAM is limited to 3 GB for GPU renderers....?

as nvidia dropped the price for Zs I've noticed a thing online =) Guys where buying bundles from boutiques & then selling Z between 2-3k$, as it seems this card has a bit of a demand =).. then for let's that money they buy 2x780 6GB - to get better performnce than TitanZ & still have 1/3rd of cash left in a pocket =)
I was really tempted when I saw Z for ~2k.. (as any e-tailer will keep the price around 3k$), but couldn't justify performance/price..Latelly got happy as I couldn't found 780 (6gb) - only STRIX, that I honestly dislike - but then used TitanBlack came into sight for the price I was willing to spend for 780.. =)
@Gueoct, I guess he has mixed workloads & for some scenes he might not need more than 3gb =)
p.s. I would love to see TitanZ under water - curious what performance You could squeeze out of it in OctaneRender, maybe You looking that way? if so, please post some stats as You go =)
