What can I do when I need additional reflections and/ or specular lights on a surface?

The backdrop imageworld or textured environment from Lightwave doesn't do anything.

Thanks!

Octane can't read imageworld or textured environment. You need to go to Octane render node network and plug textured environment node into environment input and then plug HDRI image to textured environment node.

If there is let´s say a closed room with no windows and a chrome ball. You want the chrome ball to have some reflections from behind the camera but don´t want to model the whole room full of furniture etc. In LW you would set a reflection map to the chrome material to fake some reflections.

With Octane you can´t do this?
The textured environment doesn´t work in closed rooms...

Octane doesn't support fake reflections or reflection maps like the LightWave ones. Currently the materials only supports real reflections from the scene or from the texture environment node.

Perhaps you could add a textured sphere to your scene, inside the room, and enable the unseen by camera and cast shadows flag. This sphere should be seen in the reflections, but it also is going to cast light, so I am not sure if this could work.
