Voxel global illumination - what is it?

Can some explain what is he talking about at 6:15.

Does it simply mean we may have much faster kernel than PathTracing?

It is a biased method as I understood. It might be useful as a better alternative to DL but that's it.

Well, it basicly is a simplified version of what Octane does and the quality looks good. Much better then what we had before with direct light in games anyway, but it will never match the quality of Octane obviously since it uses these voxels for the calculation. So you probably wont have all that cool stuff like caustics anytime soon since the underlying model is to gross. ;)

Also it is only one bounce as far as i understand. :P

No idea, if they will implement this version of GI into their direct lightning model. It is definitely not something that will run in real time anytime soon at 1080p ,otherwise we would have been showed that by Nvidia.

Would be really cool if Octane had a rendering mode for VXGI.
