I have recently bought the C4D plugin after using the standalone version for many years and I cannot seem to find the float image/greyscale texture node. Whats the deal with that? Is the node not needed and the plugin automatically turns colour images into greyscale or is there some option I missed on the ImageTexture node?

yes, nodes are organised for faster/easy usage and fitting better to C4D's workflow. Imagetexture has this as a option. "Type" is that for.
