Carrara Skin Shaders

Hi, I'm interested in the Carrara Genesis 2 skin shaders on sale at DAZ. There are separate shaders for a range of different Genesis 1&2 DAZ figures. I'm trying to figure out why each figure (V6, Stephanie 6, Gia, Girl 6, Aiko 6 etc.) needs it's own seperate skin shaders in Carrara. Doesn't Carrara use the Genesis 1&2 character skins when the figure is loaded into Carrara anyway? What is the advantage of using Carrara skin shaders for each specific Genesis 1&2 figure over using the skins that come with the character? And why is it better to get shaders for each specific figure rather than just getting the V6 shaders and using then on all the other Gen 2 figures. I hope my questions make sense!

That is really a question for the DAZ forums. You won't see much benefit by using those shaders with octane. They are designed to take advantage of the built in renderer and Are tuned for SSS which is not translated to octane.

I'll try to answer, I hope I'm headed in the right direction.

All of the DP skin shaders are for specific texture sets. In the case of Genesis 2, most of the shaders are for the texture set that comes with a specific Genesis 2 figure, which also has it's own unique UV map along with the unique texture map. The shaders are setup and optimized using Carrara'a materials/shaders. The conversion from DS/Poser shaders is usually OK but will require editing to make them look really good in Carrara (sometimes you do get lucky and they are perfect straight out of the box, but not always).

I just got some of them, and they seem quite good with Carrara's internal render engine, but don't work as well as the converted DS shaders in Octane (without any editing). Just like with DS, there are Carrara users that prefer to have a simple, easy to use solution for good skin shaders rather than doing the tweaking themselves.

Thanks for your advice. I'll stick with OR's translations of the shaders that come with each character and tweak them myself.
