Congratulation on the beta release. I just have a couple of questions. Do you have plans for a demo version? Will hair be supported at some point?

Yes there will be a demo version soon.
No hair will not be supported in the near future. The Carrara hair module in incompatable with octane. I would need the source code for the hair module from DAZ to implement this feature.

Hi Sighman,

Great Release. One very pleased customer.. :D

As this is a questions thread, I wonder if I might hi-jack it and potentially turn it into a questions / feature request thread.??

I would like to ask. Would it be possible to incorporate Carrara's batch render feature into a future release of the Plugin..?? This would be a huge time saver for me as I could stack a load of images for rendering whilst I am at work..

Once again well done.!!!

Cheers,

S.K.

Ah, another Question..

Are Normal Maps currently supported.??, and if they are how does one get them to work.

I plugged one into the Carrara bump channel(changed to normal,) but the mapping did not take effect.

Cheers,

S.K.

Re Batch Rendering
Unfortunately, that feature won't be implemented any time soon. I'll add it to the list but the problem is that batch rendering is a feature of the render room and the Octane Plugin has nothing to do with the render room (except for reading a couple of settings). Maybe it could be done if the API can access the batch list, or I could implement my own batch list in the ORVP.

Re Normal Maps
My bad. I missed that one. I will fix it ASAP.

EDIT: You can work around this by converting the shader to an Octane Material and setting the normal map in the material node.

Thank you Sighman for the quick reply..

I've successfully created a mesh light, and wanted to make sure I'm not missing something.

Are any Carrara lights supported somehow?

Or is there maybe a separate way to do spotlights in Octane?

Really pleased with the Plug-In so far, a couple crashes but only after "an error has occured" in Carrara. Gotta love Carrara in spite of its bugs!

Thanks again for extending it with Octane integration.

Hi Reality-1, Welcome aboard ;)

Regarding lights, Myself and PhilW cover them a little here if you would like to take a look.

I would go in to it more but am just heading out the door. I am sure you will get the idea but I am also sure people here will be happy to help you with anything you need help on :)
If I see you have had no replies then I will post later but I doubt you will go unheard ;)

Carrara lights are not supported by this plugin but, if you take a look at the above link myself & PhilW have given a few tips on lighting (PhilW covers spot lights) so I am sure that will clear up a few things for you ;)

I use spots quite a bit in Carrara, but not sure how many I'll need to use with the OR.

Emissions seem quite a bit different than anything glows, perhaps a bit more realistic.

Also looks like building a spot is pretty simple if it comes to that. 8-)

Thanks for the info!
