We are trying to render an underground train station which has more than 20 small octane plane lights. The lights are creating so much noise, it looks like it wont ever resolve even after 5000 samples on Direct Light /AO. We have tried removing DOF, clamping GI to 100, increasing samples to 1000, but still its really noisy. PMC is a little better but slower.
Why are octane lights such a problem when compared to using the sun system.?

Ok we seem to have solved the problem. We are now getting clean renders using Emissive Materials. We have turned all light emission materials up to 10000 samples and now can get clean images after 1000 to 2000 samples. The also applies to Octane lights, turn samples up really high. We are using DL with AO and sometimes diffuse.

Do you mean the sampling_rate? That can go to 10000.
Or do you mean the max samples (PT/PMC) setting?

The Emission Texture sampling rate. Make it high (10000) otherwise the image doesn't resolve.

same here love octane except this noise all the time from any kind of light except daylight. unusable for animations at night I hope engineers will come up with better way like CPU renders do - clean and noise free
