Can't go too much higher than that without having to do some real tinkering on the inside. The Mac Pro's are limited in how much power they can supply PCIe cards. K6000 maybe? You can check MacVidCards on ebay and see what they have. Check their descriptions and make sure the card you want is optimized to work without an external power source. I got a Titan Black from them, but also picked up a DVD bay sized PSU to add enough juice to power it. Lots of tinkering, wiring cables, cutting metal, etc.

You can always get a nice fully modular power supply (to have only required cables) & add something like TitanBlack/780 6Gb in the mac if You still have extra slots left. That doesn't look so bad.. =) & costs bit less than adding expander box =)

thanx for replies. Currently im running quadro 4000 for mac. its ok but would like a card with at least 1,000 cores or more for rendering. my system is a macpro dual quad 3.1 and am not seeing any high end nvidea cards for mac. dont mind doing some tinkering. will check MacVidCards. thanx for replies. probably be hearing from me again.

just checked Macvidcards and they have what i want. never dealt with them before. anybody have any experience with them? thanx

MacVidcards is great. No complaints here. Ask them as many questions as you want before getting your card. They're a group of people who mod graphics cards for the local VFX houses in hollywood.
