So I'm trying to render a 3DsMax Model in the Octane 2.0 Standalone version,
Max Model imported into Octane without alembic hair
Max Model imported into Octane without alembic hair
Everything exports correctly, and renders efficiently.
All except for the HAIR :x
Seen here is the hair, modeled in Max using Hair&Fur Splines.

When attempting to export the alembic from Max into Octane, nothing happens, and I don't have access to Ornatrix or HairFarm.
I have managed a workaround that involves exporting the hair from Max into Maya, which works pretty well,
The hair imported into Maya, it is now a NURBS Curve.

but when the alembic file opens in Octane, the Hair Strands are all TOO THICK.
The alembic hair imported into Octane 2.0<br />It all shows up as thick wires.

It all shows up as thick wires.
It's not the alembic import, because that is set at a thickness of 0.0001.

Can somebody PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO FIX THIS. Is there an easier way to get the alembic file from Max to Octane? WITHOUT Ornatrix or HairFarm?
Is there a way to simply make the hair strands thinner?
I would prefer to go directly from 3dsMax to Octane or Maya to Octane, but neither seems to be working.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated! :)

The default hair thickness in Octane standalone only has an effect if the thickness is not specified in the alembic file. Unfortunately the alembic exporter for Maya doesn't give you direct UI control of this value when you export but does set a default value, which overrides the octane standalone setting but is too big for hair.

You need to set up some user attributes on the hair nodes and in the alembic export options to get it to work, I wrote a script to do this a while back while testing v2 standalone. See this thread. http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=40773

Unfortunately I only ever got a constant width for the entire hair system working but it may help you.
