I just stumbled across dynamic clothing yesterday in the daz online shop and am fascinated with the dynamic clothing plugin and want to buy it for animations. is this supported by octane? can I render animations of characters with dresses billowing in the wind with octane?

cheers for any info

I think they'd probably work, but I haven't tested it, because in all honesty the plugin is *@!%, it's extremely slow and just when you think you've got it right, it'll crash and if that doesn't get you, you'll change some unrelated setting and the whole thing will snap back to default and you have to start again. Also 95% of the dynamic clothing on the Daz store only supports V4 and while it can be made to work with Genesis/Genesis2, it doesn't really.

So in short don't waste your money on dynamic clothing or the full plugin, I sure wish I hadn't. (Plugin also hasn't been updated in the 2 years I've had it and hardly any clothing is released, so it's probably dead).

I was once interested in dynamic clothing and bought a bunch of it but it's an absolute PITA trying to use it with Genesis. My experience leads me to advise you not to waste your money. In theory it's a great idea but in practice it's limited to V4/M4 and even then not a great solution for dynamic clothing. As SiliconAya says, the lack of updates probably means it's past its prime. I'd love to see it updated for Genesis but sadly don't think that's likely.

I believe that figure support is all down to what the clothing supports and not the plugin, there's nothing in the plugin settings that mentions anything about the figure/object other than the surfaces to interact with. However this plugin and 1 or 2 others that aren't/never been updated, like Garibaldi, are incredibly unstable and crash prone, to the point of not being usable.

That being said the whole OptiTex dynamic clothing solution needs to be given the boot, or at least restarted from scratch and the fact the Daz seem to have stopped promoting it and close to nothing seems to be released for it, makes me think that they may be stuck in a licensing agreement for DS4.X or something.

I don't know how good the Poser dynamic clothing is, but it at least seems to work and has stuff released for it, I think it is also licensed from a 3rd party, but I'm not going hold my breath that Daz would/could licensing it and we could all use the same tech/products.

Octane doesn't care if you're using dynamic cloth or not. The dynamics just move the geometry around automatically, instead of manual placement or morphs. Octane reads the dynamically-placed geometry just as it does with any other geometry.

Poser's dynamics are really. Freaking. Slow. But they do work, at least if you get the settings worked out.

It's really frustrating buying a plugin and then it's not updated. I've got a couple that I'd really like to see improved such as Infinito. Also the Animate and Mimic animation systems could be improved. It seems that a number of these systems/plugins have been introduced and then left to stagnate.
