Hey Guys,

Though I'd reach out I'm a bit distraught. I spent 2 days putting together my new computer for Octane. Having to swap the GPU cards, I mistakenly broke one of the retainer clips on my pci E express lane. It's just the clip, you know, the tiny one at the end of each PCI slot that is supposed to snap back when you're about to take out your video card, and snaps up when the card locks. Well mine doesnt anymore, it just stays down.

Can I keep my motherboard? It works fine and my card works fine and they are thoroughly bolted down. I'm freaking out!

Please advise :(

Sad Dive.

- no worries, I snapped one of my motherboard a long time ago, everything works fine, and I'm swapping cards a lot
- now it will be easier to take the card out.. it doesn't matter one bit
- even with a perfectly working clip you can insert it in a wrong way, it's not like it's all foolproof ..

=) don't freak out! as long as You're not moving or throwing Your PC around there's no need to worry =)

the most important are the contacts, if they are fine & Your GPU touches them =) then it's ok. Simply bolt tight the bracket of GPU to the case. If it works, then You're good to go & there no reasone to change mobo =)

If You're going to transport the case for the longer distance, I'd advise to take out the GPU, just in case it would be shaken too much (just to avoid the movement & potencial damage =)

These clips are fairly new, only few years old. Before that, heavy GPUs worked without them fine. They're not mandatory, just a convenient secure thing... But if your cards sit firm in their slots, you have nothing to fear.
