Banding on some textures

Hi,

Two characters have banding on them. I've experienced this in the past with two emitters emitting light which crosses over the two of them. In this case though the only lights are daylight and sunlight.

Indeed in a different scene the same characters do not show banding. I attach an image to show the unwanted effect. My scene has progressed with a lot more animation in place, I'm loathed to go back and do it all again if there is a workaround.

Render and enviromment settings can be supplied but as I say, the same settings in a different scene file with the same models is fine. Coming in and out of the scene does not solve the problem either.

I should add that there are only 60 odd materials of the 144 available in use. I've also rendered the same scene with the background in it just fine with all 144 materials used.

Any ideas?

Try increasing the ray epsilon in the kernel settings.

Excellent!

Many thanks.

Increasing it slightly solved the problem. Increasing it by more created other issues.

For the sake of completeness here is the fixed image.

Cheers!

I Should add that this will fix the F12 preview but not an animation unless you uncheck the auto calculate ray epsilon render setting as well.

In celebration I made a video about this setting.
