hi all i just joined this forum, because am yet to recover from the shocking capabilities of octane, i would love to buy this, though i was planing to get furryball real time renderer for maya, until i stumbled on octane, well my questions are.
1. does octane render support any fur or dynamic hair system like, Joe alter shave and a hair cut, if not how do i get dynamic hair animation into octane.
2. does octane support any form of particle or dynamic fluid rendering, by fluid i mean fire, smoke, ocean etc.
3. finally does octane support displacement maps, i only saw normal maps in your FAQ section.
thanks a zillion

1. Currently Octane only renders meshes (faces, no edges) imported from .obj files. So if your 3d application can export hair as mesh, octane can probably render it.
2. Again: You can render imported meshes; So fluids will work, smoke probably not, since you need density. Note that absorption is not possible yet, which would be good for such renderings.
3. No, radiance said, that displacement is extremely difficult on gpus / has never been done, so atm you have to displace meshes it in your 3d application.

Hi,
these are features that non-raytracers can do easily, but raytracers havce difficulty with them as they need to compute flobal illumination for everything in your scene. that's why furryball can do these features quite easily, it's not a physically based raytracer.
I guess it's more aimed at a different market.

thanks for the quick response guyz, it clarifies a lot of things now, but i really wish octane would support displacement and fur since i work on characters in zbrush often, and i cant recollect Joe alter hair cut working with normal maps, i will look into the hair conversion work flow, though i think it would result in an insane amount of polys
but all in all this is a gr8 renderer it looks promising and a good price point,
finally how can i purchase a license without paypal because my country is not supported though i have a master card, i read a post on this forum about this same challenge
thanks again.

The easiesst way is to get a friend to buy it for you as an international transfer for such a low amount is more complex not really worht it.
Maybe you have a friend you can ask who has way of buying it and you can reimburse him ?
