can you import a material created in standalone into maya?

Another basic function that I can't find the answer to in the manual or fourm...I created a material in octane standalone but would like to import that into the maya plugin. is there a way to do that? Importing the material through the hypergraph just gives me an error and I can't really think of any other way to do it. thanks for your help.

anybody? I know it's a basic question but the manual doesn't address this, nor are there any tutorials showing how to do this. I'm sure it's something stupid and simple i'm overlooking.

You can import materials from the liveDB but I don't believe you can save out your own shaders from the standalone and load them into the plugin at the moment. Though with the standalone now supporting the localDB maybe JimStar could open this up for import within the plugin too.

Thanks for the response! That poses another question...how in the world do I save materials to the live DB?? the only material save options I have in standalone are local DB and .orbx formats. I group my material, right click on the group to try and save but I don't see an option to save to live db, like the manual says I should see.

I've never looked into posting shaders to the liveDB so can't help much but I do know that Otoy moderates the liveDB so shaders don't show up immediately and of course anything posted there is public. Probably best to repost your question in the general forums rather than here in a plugin thread.

I posted one there but never got a response. I'll bump it and hope for the best.
It would be really nice to be able to import via local DB, as you mentioned. I think the interface in standalone is much better for material creation than it is in Maya, so i'd really like to be able create materials in there but do actual work and rendering via maya. Thanks for your help!

I totally agree
The standalone can whip out a complex shader much faster and to be able to load it from your local data base would be great
Lets hope so

that's right, adding a local liveDB for own shaders would be really great,
& the possibility to do them in the standalone, then export them to the llDB would be best.
workflow, quality, speed would improve much..
