System slowing down and lagging

Hello!
I'm worried because since last night when I open the Octane preview and I work with it the system slows down a lot. Since yesterday I can not have the preview open and running when Im modelling or moving things around, I can barely change in between applications because it lags a lot and feels like it's going to freeze.
Im working with a mac pro mid 2010, 24gb ram and a gtx 680, i know its not much graphic power but till yesterday it was enough to work smoothly in cinema 4d and have the preview open.
It's set to low priority and direct lighting.... I really don't know what it could be. Could it be that the graphic card is damaged? :?
Thanks!

it's advisable to have at least two cards, one dedicated to the system, screen & programs in the background that might use GPU, while other for rendering =) in this case You'd split workload & it don't see any lag ever.

I've jumped into this a while ago =) & could highly advise this route, as to manage that splitt of available resorces in software migh be tricky task (for some reason that priority button not always help).

First of all thanks for your reply!

Im still worried by the difference of perfomance from yesterday to today. I was able to work perfectly on the same scene I can barely move around today and Im afraid I could have damaged the card when I took it out. Maybe I grabbed the wrong way and damaged something with my clumsy hands. But, would that just affect it partially?

Thanks again!

I would be suprised if You managed to damage it. Computer hardware is not that sensitive as we think..I assume the effect is completelly from the software side as programs can't split resources in a propper way. Try to restart system, look if other prorgams work fine.
