Hi all,

here's my first Octane shot.

Original size is A3, PMC, 2 hrs on 2 Titan Blacks.

Technically I think the reflections would have motion blur, but hey :-)

I have a few observations using Octane for the first time, which might be better in the general forum, but I'll list a few here first.

1
The .abc file was quite long, due to multiple shaders/shading groups.
There was a lot of navigating back and forth in finding the right pins.
A 'show pin for selected' would be pretty cool.

2
I had issues with missing textures from exported shaders.
The shaders were exported and then imported from 1.5 to 2, so I guess this might explain things?

3
The saved .exr file is darker than the .png file.
This doesn't appear to be a gamma issue, but I might be wrong.

4
In order to access motion blur, I worked in standalone, which was cool to learn, but this was mainly because there is not a V2 plugin available for maya.

5
It would be nice for the Kernels to keep the previous settings. I work in Direct Lighting with Diffuse for previewing a fair bit, and then flip to PMC for rendering. When I flip back to Direct lighting, the GI mode flips back to AO.

6
Would be nice for the camera to have a soft clip option for the hightlight areas.

7
I saved out a version with and without Post Processing for comping.
Would be cool to have the Post Processing (glares etc.) as a separate pass, especially for animation.

Oh, and I've mentioned this a few times, so you guys are used to this, but I'll like to have no cap on the depth for PMC (or a least a setting which is higher than 32) :-)

cheers,

Steve

now that's the most beautiful car on the planet (in my personal view =) sculpture on the road!

Yeah, technically You should have reflections motion blurred =) & now that looks a bit weird.

I love the original shots for compain Harniman done for release of this model - great for inspiration!
