Octane then computer Freezes...not matter what I try.

Ok, I know that part of the problem may be that my PC is not the highes spec in the world and neither is my GPU, but I cant figure out what is oging wrong here.
I am on Windows 7 64 bit
Dual core AMD 2.4 Ghz
4 Gig RAM
nVidia GeForce 8800GTS (320GB) and definitely CUDA enabled
550 Watt PSU
I have tried the most recent beta and the octane8000.exe version.
I have also tried rolling back the drivers on the GPU and to CUDA 3.0
Now here is the deal:
1. Octane loads fine
2. Import of .obj and demo suite scenes are fine
3. As soon as I click on the mesh to begin rendering (even on the owest quality sub-sampling) it goes for about 5 seconds the freezes
4. If I load a scene where the model is not visible in the viewport there is no problem (I can see it rendeirng away the background)
5. As I zoom out, not long after the model become visible again...it freezes (again not just octane but the whole PC stops dead...no blue screen, just 100% inoperable including disk access stopping)
Any ideas please?
I will be upgrading my system in the near future (saving up the pennies), but I cant understand why all look well until rendering starts?
