Hi,

Latest version 2.01.02

I'm getting some shading artefacts when I use some Normal maps:

This only happens with some but not allNormal maps, but they all work fine in VRay and native Cinema 4D (AR) but in Octane they create the nasty artefacting you can see and don't seem to apply any of the information correctly.

All using UV maps too.

cheers

I'm guessing you do have smoothing on. Both Normal and Bump have this problem that they screw up the shadow terminator. It's a long standing problem that seems to be incredibly difficult to fix (Otoy are saying). I cannot believe that it's not priority number one as it basically makes bump or normal useless on curved objects in certain lighting situations. Their answer is use a higher resolution object, but that doesn't work for me, as I want to use the fewest polys I can (I'm in LW and we have had subD for a while).

Yes, smoothing is on :)

Interesting, I hadn't realised this was a known Octane issue, and yes going higher res on the polys is crazy, especially for flat surfaces.
Thanks for the info, hopefully it gets looked at ASAP.
