Still with glas and displacement

While testing the new features of V2 this still came out after a couple of hours. Had some trouble with finding the correct settings for the label which is still under development. But for the first run I am quite happy with the result.

Would appreciate your comments.

Thanks - Ron

Nice, nice, nice. Surely you must be quiet happy. Well done.
Coz you want comments.... I looked hard to give you some ;)
The label does look photoshopped, but I can not get my finger on the problem... Maybe the paper edge is too perfect on the edges. It might be too perfect glued to the glass. Add some imperfect edgde or rimple. Maybe add a little gloss?
Are those fireflies on the tree area?
And I wonder if the water in the glass can be the amount that came out of the bottle... Would be nice to get the cap loose from the bottle and lay it next to the bottle with drop of liquid spoiled :D
Looking forward to see the next version... If there will be, coz I think it is cool as it is.
Greetz,

Thank you Rappet for your comments. Your input is good and indeed thats what I felt about it too: it's a bit too perfect. So I tried to add some subtle imperfections to the glass and the bottle and changed the backgound to a more open scene with warm light coming from the sun setting down. Some water drops on the glass add a bit of life with the cup off the bottle. Who ever open it must have drunken some of the water - that's the reason why it's missing :-)

Waiting for your comments ...

pretty good / but decrease the bloom level, or the glare - it's easy to over do it :)
- the paper bag needs more creased edges at the bottom, it is too round looks like a clay model to me, look for references - the rest is pretty good, maybe try a sunset shot or something moody

Awesome renders!

Love the dust and perspective composition. Meniscus is perfect.

I agree about the label, it's not there yet. I could be wrong, but I feel that it needs some kind of translucency...unless it's a metallic paper. It may also need a less matte specular reflection. Now, it really could be a matte paper, but for the clarity of the render, shininess may help.

Now, here's a bigger comment: I like the daytime render over the dusk. The water looks fresher, cleaner, brighter. The refractions in all your glass and water just pops better. In fact, you may need to rotate your light source until you find that magic moment in the water. Do this; blur your eyes and look at both renders. Which water bottle looks brighter? Which one looks too dark? Psychologically, I associate crystal clean water with hot daytime thirst. Just my personal opinion. By the way, I'd kill the blue out of the water. It's not mouthwash. Also a good opportunity to throw some diffraction in that water.

Lastly, the bag. Not there yet. I agree it looks like clay. It's missing some sharpness and definition to the wrinkles. Why not find a crinkled bag texture and displace that badboy??

Looking forward to more of your work!

best,
O

Thank you acc24ex and Olitech for your constructive comments!
I do agree with both of you - the bag needs some improvement. I focused on the bottle and the label yet but as Olitech pointed out there is still something to do.

I will see how the water changes if I get rid of the blue. And rgd. the bloom - yes - it is easy to overdo it - this feature is too awesome ...

So - I keep on practicing and learning.

Ron

One last thing...umm...you don't need that lens flare. It cheapens an already fantastic render!

Ok last thing, I swear...=]

I've been having a lot of fun with the bloom also. I've been cranking it up to get a 'fake' atmospheric haze. One thing I've noticed when I do this...I need to decrease the camera's gamma to get the contrast back.

Not sure if it would apply in this case, but since you're already playing...

best,
O

yep I also did this when overblooming stuff - but try and keep gamma at 2.2 and set to Linear, play with brightness, you can get away with bloom and glare mostly on darker scenes, but not everywhere, in most situations, it is best to live it barely noticable levels - just a hint of bloom
- and if people think it's great, then just blast it away - depends on the clients/public :)
- but yeah, lens flare is a bit 1995 :)

I did some improvements. Changed the atmosphere back to daylight to have the more cold look again.
Added the sliced tomato to add a contrast color spot and re-modeled th paper bag. The render was done without any bloom/glare to see the difference.
This time it was rendered with PMC, 10.000 samples, before I used DL.

Let me know your comments.
