Currently using Octane 1.2 with Daz Plugin 1.2 and everything works fine.
I assume there is no point updating to Octane 2.0 until Daz Plugin 2.0 available.
Does Octane 2.0 with Daz Plugin 1.2 or 1.5 actually work?

The plugins are actually compiled against the version of Octane stated, in this case 1.2. The proper dll(s) for the plugin are supplied with the plugin, and it runs indepedently of the verson of Octane stand alone you have installed.

So you can upgrade the stand alone to version 2, but the plugin will still be using version 1.2 until the updated versions of the plugin are available.

I have Octane 2.0 installed, and can still use the current 1.2 version of OCDS.

Hope this helps.

correct. the ocds installer will (most probably) contain the octane slave version it was built for (and a gui for the daemon), and will allow a specific network node install. since there is no problem in having several different octane versions installed side by side, this should make things still easy to setup, like: run the installer and select a new folder for the ocds octane slave, and you're done...
