From the 'Octane' menu in the main C4D menu bar, open 'Settings'.
Under the 'Kernal' tab, change to 'Deep Channel' and the 'Type' to 'Material ID'

If you have a nice uv layout like the ones quixel show, you can switch to bodypaint layout & alt + LMB each UV island (most useful bodypaint shortcut ever) then fill with colour of your choice. From what I remember of DDO, specific colours are keyed to specific materials in DDO (this was a while back), so you could colour pick those from somewhere to assign particular DDO materials. OR just use whatever distinct colours you make up as you go.
Alt+ Shift + LMB adds an island to the selection, Ctrl + shift + LMB subtracts an island from the selection. So you can quickly block out your colours + export.
