Version 2.0 released today and network render...

So unless I'm missing something, it looks like version 2.0 has been released (it says so on the blog and also you can actually buy it right now).

So here's my question(s): what about the network render?
How do you buy a network render node?
Is it the same price as a standalone or is there a reduced price?

The network render slave license is the same as the standalone license.

cheers,

K good to know, so I can figure it into my budget for upgrading my kid's desktop so it can be a render node while he's sleeping.... :D

The bright side (for him) will be the new nvidia card he gets for no reason other than "he's a good kid". Double brownie points. BWAHAHAHAHAHA.

Guys it renders SLOOOOWW... I rendered the same scene from 1.5 max plugin in 2.0... Octane 1.5 version is 9.2M Samples/sec, Octane 2.0 is like 4.8M/Sample-sec..

I know it has network rendering but come on, we really didn't need a speed slowdown like this... Oh well I hope the speed improves, else I'm sticking to 1.5

We don't sell render slave licenses separately - yet. Right now, for this release, each computer needs a standalone license, which can also be used for network rendering or running standalone, or using plug-ins.

Any scenes that are rendering slowly should be passed to the devs so they can look into it - a 15% speed drop if many may occur, but it should not be half the speed.

I have a Standalone license and a Blender-Plug In license. Does that mean that when the 2.0 version for Blender is released I could use the Blender Plug-In as slave and the standalone as master for network rendering?

Don't think so. The plugin just lets you use Octane in Blender, it still needs Octane to run. The render node needs a stand alone license in order to operate.

Thank you for the reply. I hope you can understand my frustration here. No where in the description did it mention this. I was very excited to do some testing on our very small farm (5 nodes). Each with a gtx 680's. Only to find out that I will have to spend another $1,300 just to get them running Octane on distributed rendering. To be honest this release was the first release I felt that Octane was a viable replacement for Vray for us. I was EXTREMELY excited, only to be EXTREMELY disappointed. I really hope that you either offer a Render Slave License at a reduced price or just open it up to unlimited or limited 12 gpu's distributed rendering like many other renderer's have. With all that Otoy is doing with Amazon I am very surprised this wasn't the case.

I really do appreciate all your guys hard work. This product is kick ass! But open it up :)
