SSS question on fruit

Posted: Wed May 28, 2014 3:09 pm
Hi, I have problem with making my Sub Surface scattering looking good...
so I would need some advice how to handle it
Main problem is that I get very dark materials

here I have an scene with oranges, here is current stat I'm at... (second post in this thread)

I'm using Path tracing with 16 bounces (higher bounces don't make much difference)

and I'm using blend material, one Glossy mat. for outer orange part, and another Specular mat for SSS part (middle), and whatever I do, I can't make my orange to have more light in it, so that it's much much brighter.

here is my material settings for the specular material, I tried that specular material (just him solo) on a sphere, and I still get that brownish dark material

by the way I'm using a HDRI map for my enviroment lighting

thank you for your replies

I tweaked it all a bit, turned on Fake shadows and increased the power of RGB image in Transmission of Specular material
and got as shown on attached image

but when I rotate it, so that it comes in shadowy part of scene, it goes dark again (lower image)

Hello :)

You need to keep a white reflection, white transmission, and bump !

Put your orange map in absorption and play with different values of scattering and sclale !

hi [email protected],
You would use trasmission and medium node texture together
You can find more information here:
