Hi all ...

Is it possible to do a mass download of Octane db materials? If so would it clog my system?

thanks,
eric

It's not possible to do a mass download of the LiveDb materials, however Octane Standalone (and the plugins) cache the materials - so if you download a material once, each subsequent download should read from the cache rather than doing an actual download.

Thanks Paul ..

I had created a template with many materials and it worked beautifully but then I had a hard disk crash and did not have a proper backup so I lost all of the materials. I'll just start again.

cheers,
eric

I have downloaded numerous materials from the live db and have created a few solid colors but all of them seem to have a grain running through them ... like a wood grain ... it there some setting causing this?

If you are using a procedural "checks" texture, it does not work correctly if the geometry you have it on is at 0 x, y or z coordinate. So move the geometry a fraction. This is fixed in Octane 2.

Thanks Paul ..

I'm glad it is fixed in Octane 2.
Will I have to reload the materials from the live db?

I'm assuming that Octane 2 will be soon?

cheers,
eric

Hi Paul ..

False alarm! When I followed your advice and it did not change things, I looked a little further.

The template sheet was at a huge scale ... so each apparently small test block object was actually thousands of meters in size. I reduced the 3d scale about 4,000 times and all textures are as they should be!

My drawing scale must have changed from millimeters to meters without me being aware of it.

Thanks for your reply ... it put me on the right track.
