Using a machine remotely

I just tried to run Octane (on my PC) from my Mac, using Remote Desktop Connection. Interestingly, it reports that it can't find any CUDA devices (although obviously I have two on the PC). If it were possible to run Octane remotely like this, it might help those who have only one graphics card, by giving them the use of a second machine as a display.

I notice that if I use logmein, it works (except that logmein is cripplingly slow and much worse than interacting with Octane via a single graphics card :? .

So I wonder if there's anything that can be done to have the machine use its own graphics cards when it's running under Remote Desktop Connection or other remote session tools?

In any case it would be great to run remotely so I can render at home while sitting at work.

If I'm not mistaken it would not be contrary to the spirit of the license, because the software is still running on a single machine.

Thoughts?

Very interesting question!
It would be very useful if I can lunch Octane from a Mac with C4D to a Linux PC via LAN

the problem is that it would be very slow and you'd need a VNC protocol client and server than can handle OpenGL (eg for drawing the render on the UI)
It does work, you just need to try some different apps.

I run all of my 3D apps from work through logmein to my home with no problems.
logmein is slow and I have to turn down the color depth of the display most of the time, but I have switched to a 4G internet connection which is slower.

Using logmein through my old cable internet everything ran great!

I would imagine that there are better choices than logmein, but I haven't researched it much.

Windows has a native implementation of RDP (Remote desktop protocol) as well as most major linux distro's...

no need for a third party package, and most are very easy to set up.

I very much need this as well.
I have one mac pro with cubix xpander box and 2 gtx 480s @ work office and the same exact setup @ home office.
Currently I have the best boss in the world by allowing me to only work in office one day a week.
I don't need the interactivity over remote desktop. I just need to render what I have already set up on the local machine.

Any other apps that can be recommended?

Iray does the same thing, it renders with the CPU but will not use the GPU over remote desktop.

Sometimes I use 3d apps through RDP (to make small changes, load new scene for rendering or something like this) w/o OGL. It would be great to start Octane in this mode regardless of screen refreshing speed.
Is it possible to output picture from Octane not in OGL, but in "software mode" in principle? Or is it too much work?
