I'm still a noob at rendering and modeling however I'm slowly learning. I happy with this scene now but in 30 minutes I'll probably nitpick every detail lol #lifeofanartist
Rendered on a 4930K, 32GB RAM, 3 x 780 TIs. Took about 10 minutes to render with PMC at 4000 samples.
Your feedback would be greatly appreciated

The standardproblem with all my own noob renders, too: Edges mathematically sharp, whole thing too perfect for camera image ... it needs a bit of "craggyness" and "dirt" or "dust" etc to come realistically across.
But well if it's the first thng you made, then it's quite good

A great base to continue on.

Looks Great! I love the dirt on the metal skin, and the pattern.
I'd consider myself a noob too, so take this comment as one of those innocent observations rather than an educated critique.
the honeycomb pattern cylinder seems to be encased/framed by the upper conical part at the top, but is actually moulded at the bottom into the 30degree (guess) tapered part at the bottom - the difference (framed at top, not at bottom) didn't ring true for me - depends if it was part of your original intent, or just incidental I suppose.
I also give credit to your approach - most of my work is arch-vis, I make money from the design & documentation, but am yet to be consistent in selling the visualisation of itself. as a result the scenes I'm experimenting on are often rather complex to encapsulate as much of the design/aesthetic as possible in a single scene (saves time doing multiple scene setups).
I'll get to my point now! - you've shown good restraint here experimenting with a 'simple' object in/on a simple setting (studio plane) ...
Kudos!

Looks really nice. The main issue I felt was present in the first render was that the front grenade didn't 'feel' like it was actually sitting on the ground with the lack of a contact shadow, but you've nicely addressed that in your second render. Good job.
One more small critique is that in the first render (doesn't apply to the second), the text saying "H. E. Frag" (or something like that) was well worn away, and yet the rest of the grenade was virtually brand new and clean. You're selling it as either brand new or old and dirty, and that created a bit of inconsistency. At least in the second render the text is gone, so it's believable as a freshly made grenade.

Nice modelling and rendering. From the point of view of a technician, I just have to say that in your model, the pin of the grenade has no believable function, as it is only attached to the green handle !
Built this way, it should have alreardy exploded... or not ...as at the opposite part of the handle, the grey part goes a bit too far into the green handle, preventing it to rotate correctly as expected...

Haha, thanks for the feedback. This grenade was based on a concept art--I don't think the artist took the technical aspect into consideration. Things in the SCI FI world are just suppose to work I guess. Good points, I'll definitely take it into consideration for future models
