such a big limitation - or am I mad?

I'm trying to simulate a projector map - you know, light shining through a net curtain for example, casting a shadow onto an object.

I'm pretty sure octane has no support for projector lights, so I created an object with an opacity map (lace) and put that in front of the light - the light does not shine through the object, the lace curtain completely blocks out all light. I've tried switching to path tracing but that does not work either.

So, am I going mad? Or is this not possible with octane? I'm working on VFX for a short film and maybe I'll have to use another renderer.

made a short test. diffuse material with mosaic opacity texture.

edit: works also with direct light and path tracing

here a single sided specular material, index=1.0, map in transmission port and fake shadows on (option in specular material).
