I understand that the Blender plugin uses a modified version of Blender, but which Blender version is the modified version based from?

Currently 2.70

Jimstar stays pretty much on top of it and releases a new version shortly after updates.

It would be interesting to know the exact version though, because the 2.70a was released soon after 2.70 and is the Current official version with many bug fixed.

Here again: I already wrote about it in plugin main threads, it is the problem of Blender developers... Their Git repository is a mess. Not only it is not in sync with their SVN "libraries" repository, but it even does not have some version tags - the last version-tag seen there - is 2.70-rc. After that - only plain commits. So, not having the version information in the repository, all I can do - just update it to current trunk, and release it as 2.70 branch (removing "rc") without additional version info.
So, you can discuss it with Blender developers why their Git repository is in such a condition...
