white paper

Hello

I am trying to emulate white matte paper and keep asking myself about the right settings, in particular for the specular channel.

My take so far (but might be very wrong):

GLOSSY MATERIAL

diffuse_0.9
specular_0.1
roughness_0.95
ior_1.3

Is this ok?

Thanks in advance

Yes, those are perfect. 8-)

Just jk, I have no idea, but I don't think you will find a scientifically correct answer, even if Octane is pretty good in representing real life materials, it's still an approximation, so... As long as it looks good, it's ok, no? ;)

My doubt fine-tuning the material furthermore is that specular relates very strongly to color, so that we should have a very high specularity for white, close to 1, then let a very high roughness (again, close to 1) take care of the absence of reflections for matte paper..

Any thoughts?

What evironment are you using? How are your gamma settings? It`s hard getting those right while maintaining the " white paper " look you want to achieve.

I am using an hdri as floatimage and with gamma set to 1. I am after a "studio" light
