Lounge Room - Some help please!

Well I've been learning how to make a nice interior, enjoying my time and what not. But I'm having issue with making a nice carpet material. The one I have is kinda good I suppose, but does anyone have any good idea of how to make a nice realistic looking one?
- I'm using the Blender Plugin, but not sure if I want to post in the blender plugin area or not. I have some other questions:
Also, any tips for fabric? Having a tad issue with it as well I think. And also with Semi-transparent materials such as lamp shades and blinds? I've made the opacity a bit lower as a temporary thing. There is a bump map on my couch and blanket but this rendering hasn't gone on long enough to render out those details.

Before you get lost in too many details...mind the scale.
The room looks out of scale. Maybe it's just the sofa, but I think it may be more than that. Scale of the furniture, scale of the textures, etc.
The sofa looks like it's half way up the wall. It's either a giant sofa, or a low ceiling.
If you make everything to a correctly measured scale, then everything will start falling into place. =)
Only my suggestion.
best,
O

I'm still adjusting the couch still, it probably is a bit high still :/
But yah, mainly looking at material settings. I've started playing with the falloff nodes so it's starting to look a bit better. I'll post an update on it later.

Made a bit of an update! Looks better. I'm finding that the Couch and any other material that has my bump map takes a while to render out :/ - Any setting to speed up the render? - Also not quite happy with my material settings yet. Any help would be appreciated on them. I have screen shots of my nodes. The carpet takes forever to render as well >.<
I did some remodelling on the couch, trying to fix it up a bit. I've made some changes since this render, adding some folds along the edges (where the fabric binds, I don't think I'm using the right words for it). I think I still need to puff them out a bit and add some wrinkles so I know what I will be doing tonight. There is still a bit of a texture error I need to fix as well.
Adding books and what not to the scene. Trying to think of what else to place into it. The carpet uses a lot memory :/

Still looking for some advice on materials and stuff. I've been working on it a bit and It's gotten better. Still not completely happy with it but hey. Any advice on creating lampshade materials? I've changed it a bit since this render but I went ahead and used SSS for it, as I want to have a evening scene with the lights on and such...

Still can't get over the scale of that sofa. Still looks out of scale. Seat height should be 18-21". Coffee tables are typically 17-21".
Materials are definitely getting better, but scale still looks cartoony. Unless you get the scale of the geometry right, you're going to fight an uphill battle getting the scale of your materials perfect.
Best,
O

It was a tad high, I lowered it again now to be about 20" ish - The coffee table is slightly lower than that, I think it's 18. Thanks for the measurements, I was going for a tall sort of styled sofa, but I suppose I went a bit too tall. Hopefully it looks a bit less cartoony? I noticed a bit of a tangent with the table now but I shalt fix that in the next render.
Was basing my design on this thing:
http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/S69002474/
Not following it exactly or anything but I think I just got carried away with the cushions and the height of the seating.
I have also been playing with my materials a bit more! I think it's working out a lot better now but again, I'm not so happy with my lampshade.
EDIT: I think I know the issue. The cushions I think are too thick. I thinned them out a bit, I think it looks better. Will post an update of the render later.

Much better!
Feeling much more natural. I totally agree about the cushions. Materials improving too. Now you're cooking, Fox!!

Thanks, I shrunk the cushions now and I think it's looking a lot better now. I think the composition works, the only thing I'm not too happy about is the material for the Lampshade, possibly the sofa and the carpet a bit. I'm still unsure about my plants material setting but I think it's doable... And maybe my tables material settings could be a bit better.

So yah, been messing around the my materials, I think I need to fix my pillows just a bit more, and my blanket a tad. But yah. Working out a bit more I suppose. I tried using SSS before this on the sofa but it didn't really work out the same. Still not really happy with how it looks, I have a normal map on it as well as a spec map but the sofa doesn't really feel like clothing. Kinda more like a sponge like one...
