Hi everyone,

I'm looking to buy an Nvidia Geoforce GTX 480 video card, with 1.5GB and 448 Cuda cores. I have a license of Octane Render 1.2, and I have a Mac Pro 3.1 tower with 10GB RAM running 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.

I'm just curious to know if this card will work well with Octane Render, as I am only purchasing this card for OR.

Many thanks

You will need a newer version of OSX. Here's a helpful thread on using NVIDIA cards in Macs, what's supported and what isn't, over at MacRumors:

Hi riggles,

thanks for that.

I have read through some of that thread, but it goes for 54 pages, so I'll need some time to read through it.

I'm just curious to know if any other Mac users could let me know what video cards they are using with Octane Render ?

Thanks

hi,
the 480 should work without problems, but take in mind that the new series are extremely less power and heat hungry, and this is very good for the stability of your mac.
here is a list of pc nvidia cards tested with maverick:

Ciao Beppe,

thanks for that.

The card I am looking at has been "down clocked" to comply with the Mac Pro power requirements. I do not know how much this affects performance.

Thanks
