Animated textures in Octane.

Hi, I am currently trying to add some smoke getting out of a chimney in a long shot with several objects and a character passing between the smoke and the camera. So even if it is easy to add the smoke in post production in a simple shot, this one requires a lot of masking/rotoscoping to avoid the smoke passing over the obstacles.

So I would like to come back to the method I used for still pictures : Map a smoke texture onto a plane with Alpha and put it at the chimney's location. This is fine for a still shot, but is it possible to achieve this effect with an animated texture in Octane ? Alembic is all about geometry, and I doubt that the image sequence will be reloaded for each frame...

Any idea ?

I am totally hopeless at coding... I only wrote few Quick Basic lines around 25 years ago and few lines of HTML for my website from time, and I have absolutely no skill for that. I desperately tried to learn python without success. So LUA is not for me.

I am currently rendering a pass in Particle Illusion for the smoke. I am also studying the possibility of rendering a pass in Octane with only the obstacle objects, but there are some interactions with the ground and other objects, and it is not obvious to define what has to be in the mask and not. I will probably have to create animated masks and rotoscope anyway.

I'm interested in this as well, someone with script coding skill should take care of this.
