Just doing some random speed tests with the following scene from Betrand Benoit which you can buy here:
http://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/sce ... max/697824
Straight renders on 2 x Titan, Octane for 3ds Max, no PP.
Still need Camera Shift for viewport and color correction node with hue & sat
Also chromatic aberration for post processing would be great!
PT 12 / 130min
PT 11 / 40min
PT 8 / 40min

A simple slider would be cool...

I have that scene too, I've made some tests with the aim of balancing quality and speed...but still lots tests to do!
what about the glasses?, default values or with fake shadows option enabled?, did you tried with lower bounces (8-10)?

Glass is pretty much default but of course with fake shadows. If it's not enabled how do you get the light to pass through?
I also tried to hide the window glass but it didn't speed up the rendering, sometimes it was even a little bit slower
On the top left corner you can see the bounces behind PT. It ranges from 8 to 12.
With lower bounces everything behind the glass core gets almost black...

You're definitely right!

often (without sun light) I enable the "fake shadows" for brighten the areas behind the glasses.

Very nice and clean renders, i like that. I already see the camera moving slowly, with some nice music...
A quick question, do you think its possible to get a frame under 10/15 minutes, +-, for Full HD animation? (using a denaoiser of course)
I just ask because i try myself to get octane ready for Interiour rendering, not waiting 60 minutes for a noisefree frame...
cheers,
djart

I would say it's possible but that depends on the scene, the kernel type and your hardware setup.

Maybe you can give it a try, if you have time and fun, to find out if its possible to bring it down to under 10 minutes for a fullhd frame?
cheers,
