Cloud service?

I remember a while ago that Octane was supposed to go on the cloud, so we could use hundreds of GPUs to render our projects, and I was super excited about it, especially because I don't have a fancy hardware with 8 Titans like someone have here, but then I never heard anything about it... Last news I remember was last year, they said the new Fantastic Four movie will be rendered using Octane (I have no idea how a VFX production can use Octane, as it lacks major features for compositing, but whatever), and they were testing the cloud service...
What it's going on with that? Will the cloud service ever be available for normal users, or is it gonna be just for big studios with big $$$ to spend? And, when it's supposed to start?

The rack version showed at GTC last year was indeed targeted at high end studios. This started a year long beta program where we evaluated the best approach to deploy this kind of service, cheaply, to all users across the world.
We've been waiting on two things:
1) Launch of the Amazon G2 instances i(which happened in November)
2) Final release of Octane 1.5 (shipping within a week), with ORBX package import/export supported in SA and plug-ins. The ORBX packages are required to effectively add cloud rendering to the Octane ecosystem.
Once Octane 1.5 is out the door, we'll roll out more tools to leverage Octane cloud rendering (both live and offline) from both the SA, plug-ins and EC2 AMIs.

Sounds great, so can we realistically expect the cloud service to be available this year? Or do you thinks it's more likely gonna be from 2015?

Did you mean to say within the week?

I believe yes, it was intended.
The version released recently is their RC1=release candidate one.
