cars?

Hi

this is actually a 3ds max question, but this is the only (quite relevant) forum i know of - so i hope it's ok.

what cars do you use for renders and how do you handle them as objects in max?

i use revit linked into 3ds max, and would like to add some cars.

but:
- where do you get good cars?
- how do you use them?
by using, i mean, do they have to be stored a specific place? (i work at the same project at home and at work, using a usb stick)
is merging them in the best way of handling them?

thanks, i hope it's ok.

I believe merging them in or bring them in as xrefs. if your going to animate them then merging them in is probably the best way.

hope it helps

I havent been a max person in years, but if you want to purchase cars, try turbosquid.com

Hi

Thanks for the inputs.

I looked at turbosquid, but found a free sample on dosch design http://www.doschdesign.com/samples.php.

I xref the car in and tried to convert materials, but it seems that materials won't work.

I tried to open the Bitmap / Photometric Path Editor to see if it lists any missing textues, but it seems that there is not missing any.

I'm sure that I do something wrong (noob in 3ds max) :-/ or does one has to edit every material? if so, can this be done in the CCars09-10-sport.max file so I only have to do this once?

Thanks and sorry for the noob questions.

Oh, just a last noob question.

If I edit the CCars09-10-sport.max, how should I organize the files?

If I create a library with objects for import/xref into 3ds max like:

x:\objects\transport\cars\ should I then create a folder for each object, or is it just the max files that goes here and all textures for all objecs goes in one folder like x:\objects\textures?

Thanks - it's quiet essential for me to get this right from the start :-)

Thanks.

After I bought a 3D car I do the following:

1. Open the car file (vray version) and merge the car-parts into one object.
2. I grab the multi-mat materal to my Materil Editor and run the material converter.
3. Then end up with mostly around 20 individual Id's which I reduce. I don't need three individual glasses or chrome material for example.
4. I open interactive view and tweak the materials on the fly. For lighting I use a HDRI image. So I hav a good idea for the final look.

For scene usage I used to merge the cars into my scene but switched to Xref usage some months ago because of the file size. Using Xrefs seems to be slower while loading a scene.

Hi mbekte

Thank you for your good explanation.

Just one question. How do your organize our objects and texture images?

Thanks. I'm getting there :-)
