two different graphics cards or better true sli 2x GTX 780?

Hope this is the right category to post, as I was not able to find anything on this topic:

I suppose it is possible to use different graphics cards within one pc to render together on one scene. Has anyone got experiences on doing so, because as of now I have got a GTX780 running but want to upgrade my system with another GTX 780 or a GTX 780 ti. So I am not sure wether it would be wise to go for a real sli setup with 2x GTX 780 or if there might be some additional performance enhancements when going for a GTX 780 + GTX 780 ti setup.

Any experiences?

PS: Although I suggest/hope the outcome would be the same for standallone and plugin versions, I am using the Cinema 4D plugin...

Hi Ralf,

SLI is not needed (in fact it can cause problems) with octane, so unless you play games as well, don't worry about it.
Therefore the 780 ti will be a better second card, since it's faster than a plain 780.

Thanks
Chris.
