VRAM - what scene fits how many GB?

Sure ... this is a hugely variable thing and very hard to categorize I guess, given the various sizes of used textures, their numbers and so on. For me, since I only render my spaceships etc, I can do that inside my 2 GB VRAM happily. But can some poeple try to make examples of when you'd actually need 3 GB or 6? With maybe an example in these categories? I wonder about the memory limits and have absolutly no idea when you hit what kind of wall there.
