In Maya, will sub-d smoothing render in octane?

Catmull-Clark Subdivs information will not be included in the obj.
But you can convert Subdivs to Rendered Polygons in the Modify/Convert Menu in Maya and export it.

So in Maya, using the Octane/Maya plugin, all sub-d meshes have to be converted to high poly-count polygon meshes to be rendered? That is a big limitation. Am I understanding correctly?

Yes, it is Octane Renders limitation as it has no internal subdivision capability right now.
