In the spirit of keeping up with the Joneses, I've decided to look into getting a Titan as alot of folks here seem to be running them...wimvdb has 2 of the beasts!!

But I've run into a quandary that maybe someone here can help with. I currently have 2 GTX670's. The specs are listed below.

EVGA GeForce GTX 670 SuperClocked 4096MB GDDR5, 2x Dual-Link DVI, HDMI, DP, 4-Way SLI Ready Graphics Card (04G-P4-2673-KR)

List Price: $510.00 (can find them cheaper)
Base Clock: 967MHz
Boost Clock: 1046MHz
Memory Clock: 6008MHz
Cuda Cores: 1344 x 2 = 2688

Here's the Titan I'm looking at.

EVGA GeForce GTX TITAN SuperClocked 6GB GDDR5 384bit, Dual-Link DVI-I, DVI-D, HDMI,DP, SLI Ready Graphics Card Graphics Cards 06G-P4-2791-KR

List Price: $1,799.00 (can find them cheaper, but OUCH!)
Base Clock: 876 MHz
Boost Clock: 928 MHz
Memory Clock: 6008 MHz Effective
CUDA Cores: 2688

The problem is, on face value, I think my current setup is better. Faster base and boost clock, same cuda cores (when you double mine), etc. The only real difference I can see is Titan's 6GB memory vs. my 4GB.

...but this cant be. We are talking about Titans after all. So what am I missing that would help me to decided to sell my house (just kidding) and get a Titan?

Your price are skewed a bit..

Titan should be priced around 1000 & GTX670 aounrd 400$

in this case math is very simple, Titan is more than two times faster than 670 plus it gives 2gb of extra vRam so in the end it has even better value, if You're lookin' to use it for larger scenes (otherwise it's a waste of money). plus You only take one PCIe, so You leave some room for improvement =)

670s in SLI are somewhat similar to a Titan (in benchmarks). I find the Titan to be massively overpriced, if you don't need its DP performance (which octane doesn't). It's not even remotly faster enough to justify that price. Unless price is no issue to you.


Of course the Titan has a few advantages:

- 1 card over two ... usually less noise, less power consumtion
- No microstutter in games etc ... although I'm told that issue isn't a big issue these days with SLI
- More modern (Direct X supportlevels etc).
- The DP side ... if you do anything requiring DP (usually scientific apps etc)

Im running two Gigabyte GTX 670's, They overclock like beasts and run faster than a single titan, in games and in Octane... But they take up more space and they make your case run a bit hotter... Ive been pushing them with clocks of 1235 and mem running at 7250mhz ddr5 and They are rock solid for the past year... I recon it all depends on what you want to do... Ill wait til the GTX 800 series of cards come out in March and then there might even be a GTX790 he he he... Also its asus or EVGA thats bringing out a 6gig version of the GTX 780 Ti which has even more Cudas than a Titan and is faster... titan will soon become a fanboy paperweight and a quite expensive one at that... to me... just not worth the money. At the moment I'm running three graphics cards simultaneously 2x gtx 780ti & one Gtx660 ti all cards are 3 meg.

I'm still waiting for at this six meg versions to come out (all cards are watercooled but not at this moment overclocked)

From what I been told gtx 780ti runs faster than the Titans (I'm not too sure if this is true as I don't have a Titan the benchmarking against)

Maybe it's an idea of is that we all have different cards. To do some benchmarking? Maybe set up a default poser scene and all have a go it rendering it. And see what times different cards produce? It's only an idea
