Help creating the Daz3d Normals Example picture of Reality 2

Hey all,

I am tring to re-create this photo of a Daz model (from the reality 2 advert featuring the Luxrender) in the standalone version of Octane. I see in the Reality 2 video they explain using a normal map to get greater detail http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emjlig6vYtA dont know if that has anything to do with it. Even my Daz renders in 3ddelight show the bump/displacemnt better than Octane.

Also attached a shot rendered in Octane of the same daz model as you can see I have lost the bump effect completely. I imported it as an object file with all the textures attached from Daz so no Octane textures were used. The bump map is showing up in octane but I see the displacement map is not. Where would I add a displacement map in Octane or do I need one? What about creating a normals map by converting the jpeg in Photshops Nvidia plugin, would this help?

Any help would be appreciated.

Create a normal map and use that in the bump channel. You may get better results.

Better yet, put the normal map in the normal channel :)

Another "feature" of Octane is that it disables the bump channel if you use the normal channel, so unlike 3Delight, you can't have bump, displacement and normal maps set, only bump or normal.

Hey thanks for the replies!

Well this is a complete bust for me. Used crazybump to make a normal map and placed it in the normal for the breastplate and nothing. Like wise used a greyscal bump map in the bump map still nothing. Even tried the normal in the bump map, nada. I must be doing something wrong.

So does octane plugin for Daz show the bumpmap or is it the same type of render as the standalone?

I didn't have the same armor set but here's with a norm created in SSbump. I just let it run for a minute or so. Displacement is really going to sweet though.

Try changing the material to glossy rather than diffuse, I think you'll find it works much better, as you need to have reflection/shine/glossiness to fake displacement by creating highlights etc, so without it, it'll just look flat.

I knew I recognised it, but was thinking it was for V4 not Genesis!!!
One suggestion would be to swap the _bum maps to the _dis ones, where available to get crisper bump look. Apart from that, down to the no displacements (yet?!?) in Octane you may get somewhere if you can propagate normal maps from somewhere.
