glass shadows

I've got a problem. I have created a simple scene with a magnifying glass in it. This simply consists of 2 layers of convex specular material in a frame of glossy material. I was expecting for the specular material to have a different shadow quality to the glossy material but it don't. It is almost as if the specular material isn't in any way transparent. Is this just a limitation of the software of something I've not done? Sorry, I am very new to Octane and I am still getting to grips with its strengths / limitations.

search the forums for examples you need to layer the glass in a special way.
i can't remember where i saw a diagram posted, maybe someone else remembers ?

I don't seem to be getting transparent shadows off of any glass objects. I've checked my normals etc. I can see through the glass object but the shadows that they render are just solid.

transparency* on specular materials is ftm not possible. You'll have to wait till mlt (or similar) is implemented on next releases (* edit: I'm pretty sure I meant 'shadows')

just out of interest, is there a good reference site for the technologies used in Octane? FTM and MLT mean nothing to me.

ftm = for the moment
mlt = metropolis light transport

Hmm, that explains it then :)

I did actually wikipedia MLT but I couldn't find anything on FTM. It all sounds very high brow and maybe something I really don't need to know. I'm just after a render engine that does what I tell it to do. Fingers crossed for FTM technology.

I propose that Refractive uses FTM acronym for their new pathtracer.

Fast Tracing Machine
Firefly-less Turbo Mode
Fantastic Technical Masterpiece

...or something like that... 8-)
