apparently some changes in windows 8.1 break the packager used for the installer, means it is currently not possible to install the plugin with the installer. to get you running by installing the contents manually, please follow this directions:

• please download this package:
  download obsolete
  
  it contains all the contents of the installer. there are folders named after their usual target location, and within them clickable links which open the respective target directory - to copy the stuff in there.
• it should finally look like this:

  *** note: the daz studio folder might be called differently if you have current betas installed or have used the dzim to install studio; if you have more than one installation of studio running, you need to copy the files into that locations also if you like to use the plugin with them.
• if you have everything in place, first start the OctaneACM.exe from (any of) the daz studio root folder(s), where you have just copied it, and go through the plugin activation. after that you may start studio, and everything should be up and running...

NOTE: as of version 1.2 this should no longer be needed - pls just use the current installer from the customer downloads section (where the link above still points to), and/or the update patches from this forum. if there are still problems, pls drop me a pm!

Is there a problem with activation staying on in window 8.1 I keep having to activate it and even when it's said it's active and I close the window there noting there but the activation Tab. So it's an endless loop that goes nowhere. I did try closing daz down and running the activation manually then I have that active then boot up DS. And all the Tabs are there and it's active but another error comes up can't access render settings. Is this a Octane bug or a Win 8 bug, like admin rights problem. Stand alone worked fine and the poser version worked to but not the DS version. Any ideas ?

I have Windows 8.1 64 bit and I did your instructions at top and reloaded everything. Octane standalone works and is activated. The pluggin activation manager says 'activated' but it never does anything and everytime I open Daz Studio I have to activate again. (Just as midnight stories reported although he got it to work). I have tried running as administrator and in compatibility mode but makes no difference. Spent 2 hours on this and run out of ideas.

can you pls check if you have copied the settings file from the .zip into this place:
C:\Users\YourWinUsername\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\OctaneRender_settings.oczdb

if you have a file with this name there but only of ~9kb size, pls replace it with the one from the .zip file (~212kb), try the activation again - it should the work...

This file is needed and NOT in the provided zip
