This should sound quite weird but I'd like to see performance limiter in Octane

Sometimes scene happens to be quite light and I get 3x the framerate I need. It'd be nice to be able to cut down rendering power, so gpu don't heat so much without need.

Usually I use pause button all the time because of that turbine inside my computer when I need no actual rendering. For instance when setting parameters that i know will do fine.
Looking for that button all the time is distracting.
Maybe there is a hot key? It'd be cool to do it with Caps Lock like in After Effects, so you get visual feedback from keyboard. Or Scroll Lock - who uses that button anyway

Afaik it is not possible to slow down GPU's its either Idle or full speed.

On linux you could manipulate the performance level in different ways. With nvidia-settings you fix the performance level to 2, this is medium performance.
In xorg.conf maybe Option "RegistryDwords" "PerfLevelSrc=0x3333" to scale power level over temperatur and much more.

In the comand shell you could set your card to a fixed clock frequecy with
nvidia-settings -q GPUPerfModes -t perf=2, nvclock=425, memclock=0
so it is easy to change with a batch script.

I think some of these features are also possible on windows, right?

Well, I can downclock the card a bit but it isn't really noticeable.

Try rivatuner, then go to \ NVIDIA \ Overclocking, in that select EnablePerfLevelForcig = 1.
This force the card to performance level 1 from 0, 1, or 2, what is the maximum.
On my card it is 300, 400 or 576 Mhz Graphics Clock / 600, 800, 1242 Mhz Processor Clock.

It should be possible to do this with the Nvidia driver settings tool, but i am not a windows user and don´t know exactly.

With my card i always need to use the max. settings.

Try the Afterburner utility and underclock the card down to slow it.Afterburner is an MSI overclock tool based on Rivatuner.That may work.
