New Rhino Plugin export to standalone?

Hello,

Is there a way to bring the rhino scene into octane stand-alone using this new plugin? It's great that octane is getting integrated into the rhino workflow, but right now it feels like a step backward since it is missing some of the features and the octane interface that I have grown so used to :(

Hi Paul,

The thing I am having trouble with is not having the node-based system with the rhino plugin. The octane stand-alone node browser provides so much flexibility in testing out different scene and material setups. Seems to me there should be a way to get your rhino scene back into that octane environment, especially when octane releases new stand-alone features....but maybe that is backward thinking :?

All the nodes from Standalone are in the Rhino plugin. You can make all the same connections and adjust all the same values. It's is just represented in a tree structure rather than nodes. You can click on any pin in the tree and change it's node type.

Is there something specific in Standalone that you haven't been able to do using the tree nodes?

I did not realize you could change the node type in the tree :oops:, that takes care of any specific features I thought were missing

The thing I like about the network layout of nodes as opposed to the tree layout is that I can have different configurations at my fingertips and quickly connect and disconnect the nodes to try different scenarios (see pic) But really, now that I have gotten back into the groove, my request to have the Rhino plugin export to standalone wouldn't be much more helpful than simply exporting the .objs manually, except maybe to get camera positions synced between the two programs.

You can cut and paste any node and all it's child nodes in order to move multiple nodes around the material. Also, Otoy have stated the the ability to export from the plugins to Standalone may/will be supported in the future. The main issue is you will get a jumble of nodes to sort through. I have a Poser scene which produces 20,000 nodes - so imagine working with that in Standalone!

Thanks for your responses, Paul. I wasn't aware that you are developing the plugins for other programs as well, you must have quite a full plate! I appreciate your hard work!
