IES Lights - How to?

Hi All,
Is there a trick to using Octane IES lights in max? If these questions have been answered before, can someone direct me to the thread, as search results on the Max forum seem limited.
It seems we are getting inconsistent results:
-Some IES data works, and some give us no light at all unless we switch from Temperature to Color mode.
-In some cases, we need to increase the wattage extremely high to see the effect.
-When making the lights visible, there is just a glowing sphere that does not seem to pick up the bloom and glare. Do we need to insert the light into an actual fixture?
-Is there a recommended IES data set that we need to use?
Thanks in advance!
best,
O
