I cant seem to get rid of these artifacts. I tried reducing the phong to 20 but as you can see on the cap they are persistent. These are both the same cap. It seems like when I put it over the light the arifacts show up but I am not really sure. Any advice?

Hi Buzby,
Are you willing to post the cap geometry here? (as c4d file). I will take a look.
Thanks
Chris.

i have the same problem... tried everything. After 8.000 till 10.000 samples is everything fine,
but the area with artefacts needs more than 30.000 samples..and its a simple wall..if you found out why, could you please tell me?

Probably someone here will be able to help.

Are you able to isolate just the cap and save that? (Not the whole thing)
Thanks
Chris.

I wish I could, it is a complicated scene, (at least for me) and the lighting is tied in to the daylight along with a few other tricks to light the wheel correctly. I will PM you. If it is too big dont worry about it, thanks for the reply

hi,
i had the same issue with a triangulated highres cad-model with normaltags. (imported as obj-file) try to disable the smooth-function in octanematerial. that works for me. no shading-artefacts anymore.

I had the same results as useruser : i think that disabling smoothing is the key

I Was not using an Octane material, maybe that was part of it. I did re-try with an Octane material and smooth unchecked but got the same results
Here is a suggestion from Foose below, this was a good point for anyone using emitters touching other parts. If the emitter is touching another part or inside another part it can create artifacts.
Then we went to an entirely new format with Direct light off and PMC on. Foose created a different light source using a cube inside with frosted lens instead of the lens material doing the emitting and it came out much better and truer to life (below). The center is blown out so we are now fine tuning it for the final shot. Thanks Foose and all.
"Hi Buzby,
Looks like the cap is too close (or just overlapping) the surface of the emitter.
I moved it our just a touch and this seemed to solve the problem."
